Jo’s Confession to Meg

Adithi A, India

before you go,

rain a few drops on the sun

draw me a rainbow,

jive a few steps to my oboe

let me catch your glow.

we were luciferin in a bell-jar

now stars guarding sparkling plankton

tumbling down the hill, Hansel & Gretel

salt on our lips, rum in our hips

Tom and Huck, Gables girls

unmoored children of the world

drinking moonlight, playing ball

under someone’s roof.

Tell me—

When one day,

you belong to someone

could I still belong to you?
